Event Description: Join National Park Service Naturalist Jerry Hightower for a look at this beautiful area in autumn’s colors and the sunset from Overlook Ridge where you will enjoy the grand view above Devil’s Race Course Shoals of this grand section of river. We will take Cabin Creek Trail through a beautiful forest in its autumn colors along Cabin Creek and hike up the ridge past Civil War gun emplacements . We will travel above rock cliffs, through mature oak/hickory forest, mesic ravine forest, and floodplain forest. Our hike will take us over and past extraordinary rock outcrops and formations influenced by the Brevard Fault, which runs through the Unit. We will see glorious autumn tree color and perhaps a salamander or two. Note: The $3 Daily Park Pass is not required for vehicles displaying a current Annual Park Pass or America the Beautiful Pass! Reservations are required; please call 678-538-1200 to make your reservation, space is limited!
