New Payment Models  

We don't know how much longer our fee-for-service approach to care will last but it is believed that it will not be long.  ACO's and P4P plans are developing across the country. They are built on the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Triple Aim – Population Health, Cost per Capita/Value, and Patient Centeredness. The transition period will be hard – how do we survive with the current plan as the new plans slowly overtake them. The principles of the new care organizational/payment models will be explored and the possible responses of the Medical practice will be suggested.

David Cowan has 30 years of experience in healthcare planning and management, and is currently serving as a senior research scientist at the Health Systems Institute at the Georgia Institute of Technology.   His research is focused on the integration of the built environment and technology in the re-engineering of process of healthcare delivery.   He has active research projects in progress with many Atlanta based healthcare providers as well as with the Military Health Service and the Indian Health services.  He was the leading faculty member for the Master of Science in Health Systems for the last 10 years.
