Risk Assessment in EHR Implementations

Is your practice at risk?  The HITECH Act of 2009 allocated some $19 billion for medical practices that implemented an electronic healthcare record (EHR) and could demonstrate “meaningful use” of that system.  Practices that fail to demonstrate meaningful use of EHR systems will be penalized by reductions of up to 5% in their Medicare reimbursement rates.   Governmental regulations as well as the inherent benefits of a computerized patient record have led many practices to begin implementing EHR systems.

This lunchtime seminar will provide an overview of the risks surrounding EHR implementation and steps to take to ensure HIPAA compliance and reduce those risks.  We will provide an overview of the components of a HIPAA Risk Assessment and how this can mitigate risks to the practice and its stakeholders.
